Burnley Council wanted me to come and write a song with the public during Burnley Literary Festival and so they gave me a big marquee, a table and I brought my guitar along to brave the cold windy day.

Speaking to members of the public was no easy task as they thought I was trying to sell them something but once they plucked up the courage to come and say hello, we had a micro-chat and I wrote down their fears, desires, loves and obsessions and played it back to them in the form of a song.

After the day was up I had a song, catchy chorus and took it to Groove Studios in Burnley to lay it all down. Chris Lewis played his Stevie Wonder-esque drums and the song was born.

Big thanks to all the people from the Burnley community who inspired the lyrics.

Corey loves the feeling of a brand new sandwich after someone dropped his favourite one on the floor.

Hannah can’t stand it when people chew loudly,
Tanveer met Hannah and he stands with her proudly,
Stan wants to be happy, to be loved and be active,
Gavin feels that sincerity makes the world go round.

Santa plays on his computer and relaxes painting landscapes,
Derek wants to retire and even though he’s 60,
He’s still lifting sheets of chipboard,
It’s annoying but he’s nifty,
David loves the people in this town we call Burnley,
