CLAYHAT Listen to the first 4 tracks on this album. Do it. I'll wait.

I've been going back and forth with whether I think this guy is being serious or ridiculous, and in the end I think it's both. And that's all I could ever ask for. Favorite track: The Sadness.

<Start of tape> Someone told me I was lost and I said "No, I'm not lost I'm merely finding my way home. Travelling is never easy on your own it's inviting." Take my backpack, Pack it up, Flat pack it in, Sun God Ra will suddenly explain my grin, Merlot is the world in me, Oh save me do, Like before now. (Say that you'll watch me waltzing to the Blue Danube) Then you take a bit of love and light, And a little bit of fun and laughter And you sprinkle it upon your love life, Like you've never ever done before, (Praying and awaiting my last migraine of the day.) When you're both in bed you masturbate, Two lovers in a classic porno. (Leave me with your wedding album)
2.
Failing again, Feels much harder this time, Lose your mind to paradigms, Choose to use kinder lies, They penetrate me so deep I'm tenderised. Rode that train to Georgia in my mind, I had all my senses I was fine, Should I lie? Or could I break my bones? Trading pheasants for lions, Cold, alone, with sex on my mind. You've lost the way, So sorry to say, Do the world a favour, Step on in to the light, Underwear removed just for tonight. Rode that train to Georgia in my mind, I had all my senses I was fine, Should I lie? Or could I break my bones? Trading pheasants for lions, Cold, alone, with sex on my mind.

Sometimes I feel like I'm a demon, With nothing left inside my soul, All that I ever do is cry, All that i ever do is give you lots of reasons to hate me, And give you lots of reasons to kill me, So I don't expect no loving, No dirty loving at all, So stop me when I start descending, Into the depths of my home. I know I'll never find my freedom, As long as I'm between these walls, So stop me when I start pretending, Or I will die in my home, In my home, In my home, In my home.

The Sadness 03:14
When you go to bed he will be waiting for you in the corner, Watching as your eyes start falling to closed, Oh they call him The Sadness, His sorrow so deep and hollow, Standing in the shadows he will come and kneel upon you and perform his artistry of torture in dreams, Oh they call him The Sadness, His sorrow so deep and hollow, Opening your eyes you stare into the darkness of his dead face, Body paralysed, His fingers inside. Oh, they call him The Sadness, His sorrow so deep and hollow, Oh, they call him The Sadness, His sorrow so deep and hollow, Oh, they call him: 'The Sadness'
5.
Behind this smile my inner turmoil, Suspended lights, A deepest sadness, I openly express my gladness, I'm breaking down from information, My status claims a new sensation, All I ever wanna do is give my love to all, And make them see that it's so easy. Praise yourself some more, Your feeble world, Lonely, Tease the worm, Go alone. A word can tip the world into dismay, Confuse and spoil your perfect day, A look can split your soul, So sore, So many do it and close the door. Your feeble world, Lonely, Feed the worm, Funny how those words can split your soul, Split your soul.
6.
My life is a broken bottle (My life is a broken bottle) My eyes are slits in the light (My eyes are slits in the light) My throat is a gullet of darkness (My throat is a gullet of darkness) My ears are painful, Whenever I hear your name. Love is King and Death is Queen Love will bring you things you've never seen, Love is King and Death is Queen, Death will bring you things you've never seen in all your life, In all your life.
7.
INSTRUMENTAL Northern worlds collide, This pride decimating, Narrow minds align, Despise culminating, No more words to find, I'm signing off this Pantomime. *There is no God in the Sun, We will never become One, No one nailed men to the cross, This is no big loss, People don’t worship The Man, There’s no truth in the Quran, Holy Ghosts never exist, Add this to your cynical list...list...list...list...list...list...list*
8.
Superman came and took my love away, Took her right from me, As we lay arms in arms, With his charms, Fly away to your home beyond this universe, Keep her all safe and warm, In your arms, Use your charms and your power. Don't ask me nothing that you can't answer for yourself, Or you'll find me deep down in your hell, Don't come round here anymore I can't stand your sound, Or you might find me with my gun and an empty round. Superman came and took my love away, Took her right from me, As we lay arms in arms, With his charms, Fly away to your home beyond this universe, Keep her all safe and warm, In your arms, Use your charms and your power. I will sit, Staring at you, Cry for a bit and then smile, Once it's out, I will stand up, Then move about back through life, What is it all about now?
9.
Crushing me, In a state, What a date, Roadkill, Here am I, Asking "why?", Paradise blackout, No one knows what it is that separates us all, If we did we would all be dead on arrival. (Dead on arrival) Taking my dignity, Disemboweled, Lick me, Run around, Stealing dreams, Thievery, Suck me, No one knows what it is that separates us all, If we did we would all be dead on arrival.
10.
"I've seen Death. I've stared it in the face. I held his hand. I asked him to take me but he refused" Darker faces, Growing out of me, Facing hours, Tickles for free, Furlongs away, The goal never comes, But I can smell a sign, The tortoise never runs. Lots of people running too fast and they're never gonna run themselves out of the past, I'm twitching the curtain, Oh what a burden, Dissect your Mother, Dissect your Father, Dissect them with all your love. Lots of people running too fast and they're never gonna run themselves out of the past, I'm twitching the curtain, Oh what a burden, Dissect your Mother, Dissect your Father, Dissect them with all your love.
11.
I'm not real, I'm not staying here without a memory, I'm not real, I'm not staying here, Without a memory, I'm not real, I'm not staying, Here without a memory. I'm not real I'm not, Staying here without a memory, I'm not real, I'm not staying here without, A memory, I'm not real, I'm not staying here without a... memory?
12.
*some garbled, old fashioned, silent-film intro induction* These morning winters going long, Fools bruise me with ice, Give me your hair, Give me your hair. Too much stress will kill you every time, Don't be so angry or you will explode, Into shatters of shadows and doom and gloom and death and steel. Doing so much thinking you are losing all your hair, Stop or you'll go POP! and spill your troubles everywhere, Doing so much thinking you are losing all your hair, Stop or you'll go POP! and spill your troubles everywhere. "Hello my name is Mr Stansfield and I am 33 years old." "Hello my name is me." "Stop. Ok again." "...but especially I love Meerkats." <End of Tape.>

about

An album about the transition we call Life that exists between birth and death. An amalgamation of all the music I have absorbed over 34 years condensed into 12 tracks focusing on sex, love, death, loss, breakthroughs, breakdowns and freedom.

***Each track has an image and each image is part of a bigger picture by R.S.Connett - see if you can put them all together.***

All recorded in a front room with one microphone, an old Yamaha keyboard, iPad, instruments and whiskey. Convention never suited me so I've made this album as a result. The End.

about

Jay Stansfield Lancashire

Original, affecting and a tad bonkers, Jay Stansfield has charmed us with his inventive approach to songwriting.

An artist with an eccentric songcraft, wrapped up in a 60s pop sheen.

He has steadily built a bank of great songs and some amazing videos - in his fiercely independent fashion.

Jay is also fronts British postpunk band ALL HAIL HYENA who can be found here on Bandcamp.
